This stellar performance earned him another Orlando Pirates Player of the Month award, marking his fourth for the recently concluded season; he also received the accolade in December, February, and March.
Mofokeng may have played his last game for Pirates
In this voting process, “President yama-2000,” triumphed over tough competition from his teammates by securing 18% of the votes.
Kamogelo Sebelebele followed closely with 17%, while Patrick Maswanganyi garnered 16%. Defenders Lebone Seema and April winner Oswin Appollis each received 15%, highlighting the collective excellence that brought another Treble to the Soweto Giants.
Throughout the season, Mofokeng scored 11 goals and provided nine assists for the Buccaneers, marking his best year in the club’s colors. Having already won seven trophies with the team, it seems likely that this talented 21-year-old attacker will play abroad next season.
Mofokeng is one of the eight Pirates players in the Bafana Bafana squad to play in the FIFA World Cup. He is almost certain to get minutes and his performance will determine whether he moves to a big league or not.
Will Mofokeng impress at the World Cup?
Fans saddened as Soweto Derby hero Lebitso leaves Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates supporters have expressed their disappointment after the club confirmed the departure of fan favourite Thabiso Lebitso.
Lebitso’s exit forms part of the deal that sees Pirates secure the services of midfielder Mthetheli Mthiyane from Stellenbosch FC, with the hardworking full-back moving in the opposite direction as part of the player exchange agreement between the two clubs.
During his two-year stint at Pirates, Lebitso played a role in one of the club’s most successful periods in recent history.
Although injuries disrupted parts of his time at the club, he remained a popular figure among supporters thanks to his commitment, energy and never-say-die attitude, the club wrote in a statement.
One of his most memorable moments came in 2024 when he scored a stunning goal in Pirates’ thrilling 3-2 Soweto Derby victory over Kaizer Chiefs at a packed FNB Stadium.
The strike is widely regarded as one of the finest Pirates goals scored in the derby in recent years and ensured Lebitso’s place in the hearts of the Buccaneers faithful.
Following confirmation of his departure, many supporters took to social media to share their disappointment, with several believing the defender deserved more opportunities after struggling with injuries.
Lebitso leaves Pirates after two and a half years
One fan, @mingasPC, wrote: “Some decisions I disagree with the club. Disappointed to see him go. When he was injury-free, he was a massive asset for us at the back and always gave us great energy going forward. Wish him all the best at Stellies.
I still think he had a lot to offer this club, especially with his work rate down the flank. Go well, Lebitso.
A top professional who always gave his all. Tough to see him leave in a swap deal, but hope he gets the regular game time he deserves.”
Lebitso joined Pirates from Chippa United in January 2024 and immediately became a fan favourite.
Another supporter, @ian_mahlatse, said: “I’m not happy with this one. Thank you for all your dedication and the amazing energy you’ve brought to the club over the years.”
@SkayMajavula added: “You’ll always be remembered for the scorcher against Chiefs. All the best buddy.”
Meanwhile, @LedwabaRonald felt injuries ultimately prevented Lebitso from reaching his full potential at Pirates.
“This one hurts. Injuries have really interrupted his stay at Pirates. He was our solid number two before battling injuries.”
Did Pirates make a good decision?
Keane and Fernandes clear air after row over ‘lie’
LONDON, England, June 10, 2026 – Roy Keane has cleared the air with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, with the pair having a “lovely chat” after he misquoted the Portuguese – which led to Fernandes accusing him of lying.
Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Keane also implied Fernandes was prioritising individual accolades over the team’s success.
Fernandes broke the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign, setting up his 21st goal against Brighton.
Speaking on The Overlap podcast after the penultimate round of fixtures in May, Keane questioned Fernandes’ mindset and described him as being at the centre of a “circus act”.
He claimed the Portugal midfielder had said “I probably should have shot but I made them passes” in an interview following the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
Fernandes subsequently accused Keane of telling a “lie”, pointing out that his actual post-match comments were: “There were probably moments today when I should have passed instead of shot.
“I’m very happy for the assist, but more than that, I’m happy for the win and to finish the season on a high.”
Fernandes said he was keen to meet the former Manchester United captain to discuss the issue, with Keane revealing on Wednesday’s Stick to Football podcast that a “nice, mature conversation” had taken place.
“There was a reaction after what we said on the podcast a few weeks ago and he reached out to me and wanted a chat – I called him and we had a lovely chat,” Keane said.
“It was nice because when we do podcasts or games, sometimes you think you say something afterwards and you communicate something and it doesn’t come across properly, so people get upset and he said he wanted to talk to me. We had a nice, mature conversation.
“I like having boundaries with players. I don’t want to be speaking to players every few weeks or their agents, I don’t want to go down that road, but every now and then a player might reach out, so I think it was important I spoke to him.
“There has been lots going on and lots reported. He’s obviously a big player for United, I’m an ex-United player and I think the idea of this communicating and having a proper conversation, I really enjoyed it. Hopefully I think he did as well. Nice chat about a bit of everything and I felt better afterwards.”
