Five-time champions CSK have axed New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming from the head coach role. This is for the very first time that he has been removed from that position in a tenure that lasted 17 years, having joined the support staff way back in 2009. Former former India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was first removed from captaincy, and then completely axed from the side. England playing XI for ENG vs IND 1st ODI

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the England men’s cricket team’s playing XI for the first ODI of the 3-match series against India. The hosts, who are coming off a 4-0 victory in T20Is, will face the Men in Blue in Birmingham on July 14. Jacob Bethell, who scored a half-century in his last ODI match on January 27, has been promoted from the middle order to opener. Oslo [Norway], July 14 (ANI): Norway’s memorable FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign may have ended in quarter-final heartbreak, but the team’s return home turned into a nationwide celebration on Monday (local time) as more than 100,000 supporters gathered across Oslo to welcome their heroes, reported Reuters.

The Norwegian side, whose impressive run at the tournament came to an end after a 2-1 extra-time defeat against England in the quarter-finals, received a grand reception from fans despite missing out on a place in the last four.

The squad arrived in Oslo to a traditional water cannon salute before beginning a homecoming parade through the Norwegian capital. Thousands of fans gathered around the Royal Palace and lined Karl Johans gate, the city’s main thoroughfare, as the players first attended an audience with King Harald before greeting supporters from the palace steps.

The celebrations featured one final “Viking row", with Crown Prince Haakon leading the traditional chant on the drums. However, star striker Erling Haaland was absent from the event after leaving early to catch a flight.

Texas [US], July 14 (ANI): France head coach Didier Deschamps expects a fierce contest for possession when his side takes on Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final, saying both teams are capable of controlling the game in different ways, according to Reuters.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the blockbuster clash, Deschamps acknowledged Spain’s ability to dominate the ball but backed France to adapt their approach depending on how the match develops.

“Spain can apply a lot of pressure, but we are also a team who need the ball. There will be a battle for control," Deschamps said, as quoted by Reuters.

The France coach highlighted Spain’s technical quality while pointing to his team’s ability to counterattack, retain possession and defend effectively.

“Spain have great quality on the ball. We have the qualities to attack quickly on the counter, to keep possession ourselves and to defend well. The course of the game will dictate things. I cannot say now exactly how the match will unfold," he added, as quoted by Reuters.

Deschamps said the 26-year-old Tchouameni had not yet fully recovered but was available for selection after being left out of the previous game against Morocco as a precaution after the Real Madrid midfielder suffered a hamstring problem.

“For the last match, the risk was too high," he said. “He is better today, although we cannot say he is 100% recovered. His last game was two weeks ago, but that is not prohibitive. The important thing is that he is available," the Les Blues coach added, as quoted by Reuters.

The France coach said adaptation had been central to his side’s consistency. “When you are a coach, the key word is adaptation," explained Deschamps. “Football is not an exact science, but preparation and planning are always important, right down to the smallest detail."

In a very interesting potential move that could shake things up for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the IPL is that the RCB coach, Andy Flower, has been linked to the vacant England Test coach role.

Earlier this month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sacked Brendon McCullum as the Test coach even though his contract had been designed up to the home 2027 Ashes. McCullum, though, has been retained as the white-ball coach following England’s successful run to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup this year and the hammering of India at home by 4-0 recently.

McCullum has been removed from the Test role just days after captain Ben Stokes brought the curtains to his international career.

The New Zealander took up the England Test coach job in 2022, along with the appointment of Stokes as the skipper, in the wake of a horrendous run for the England Test team under Joe Root and Chris Silverwood.

The Bazball wave washed over everyone as England clattered run chases at home and even beat Pakistan away. However, England couldn’t attain a series win over their two strongest opponents: out of the four Test series under Stokes and McCullum against Australia and India, England drew two (both at home) and lost two (both away).

The Ashes 2025/26 drubbing in Australia was quite significant and brutal. And even though McCullum, Stokes, and managing director Rob Key managed to retain their positions in the post-Ashes review, only Key now remains in the role following the 2-1 loss at home to New Zealand this summer.

Who will be the new England Test coach? RCB’s Andy Flower in the fray

According to ESPNcricinfo, RCB coach Andy Flower is touted as the favorite to become England’s new Test coach, but at the same time, he would continue with RCB.

The ECB is considering allowing their new Test coach to work in the IPL or any other franchise leagues if they desire.

Richard Gould, the ECB’s chief executive, said, “We need to be progressive in these issues. We’ve got players trying to balance between county, franchise, international cricket. It’s a really busy calendar. We may well have to do the same with our coaching staff and supporting staff; we already do, to an extent. But I think that is something that we will have to have a look at.

“One of the difficulties is the IPL dates are not a fixed thing, and there maybe will be some compromises that need to be made along the way. But the important thing is that we’ve got the best individuals that offer the best fit and we get them into those positions. It is something that we would certainly consider.”

Flower is already experienced in coaching the England team to immense success in the past. Under Flower, England became the No. 1 Test team in 2011 when they thumped India 4-0 at home after having sealed a historic Ashes 2010/11 series in Australia, the last time England won the away Ashes.

He also coached RCB to two consecutive IPL trophies, ending an 18-season drought for the franchise. In the coming weeks, Flower will be overseeing the London Spirit in the Hundred.
