Oscar Retires at 34 Due to Cardiac Issues

Former Brazil international Oscar has retired at the age of 34 due to cardiac problems after fainting during a routine medical examination.

The 34-year-old attacking midfielder spent five days in hospital after the incident in November and has not played since. São Paulo confirmed on Saturday that Oscar was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, a condition caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure, heart rate, and cerebral blood flow.

Oscar, who won two league titles in five years at Chelsea, had a contract with São Paulo that was due to expire in 2027. The Brazilian international made the decision to call time on his professional career following medical advice.
