Kade O'Rourke seeks exceptional status in OHL

15-year-old defenseman Kade O’Rourke has applied for exceptional status in the Ontario Hockey League, a move that would make him the first pure-born American to receive the honor.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, O’Rourke hopes to join the OHL a year early. He recently led the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to the OHL Cup final, where he recorded 10 points and was named a tournament all-star.

The OHL Draft is scheduled for June 12th. O’Rourke joins a prestigious list of exceptional status recipients, including John Tavares and Connor McDavid.
