Masters Chair Urges Stronger Ball Distance Controls

Fred Ridley, chairman of the Masters, warned that modern golf balls are traveling too far and urged governing bodies to adopt tighter distance limits.

During his State of the Masters address, Ridley highlighted that elite players are hitting drives over 350 yards, far beyond acceptable limits. He urged the USGA and R&A to implement a universal distance rule starting January 1, 2030, to curb excessive ball travel and preserve course integrity.
