The Canadian women’s hockey team appears to have avoided a key injury.
Defender Claire Thompson is likely to play in Thursday’s gold-medal game against the U.S. (1:10 p.m. ET / 10:10 a.m. PT, CBC Gem, Sportsnet+) despite missing practice on Wednesday.
“She has an upper-body injury that we just thought it would be better for her to take the day off and play around with a little bit of medical treatment that she’ll potentially have to use in the game, but all signs point to that she’ll be fine for the game,” head coach Troy Ryan said, per Claire Hanna of CBC Olympics.
It is unclear when Thompson’s injury occurred.
Thompson is tied for fourth among defenders in the Olympics with four points (one goal, three assists) in six games.
Canada will be aiming to defend its gold medal in the final against the U.S., which is riding a seven-game win streak against its rival.
