Former Panthers coach being hired by Raiders as senior assistant

A familiar name has found himself a new home.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Garafolo, the Las Vegas Raiders are hiring former Carolina Panthers coach Al Holcomb as a senior defensive assistant. Holcomb served in a number of roles for the Panthers over a total of eight years.

Holcomb got his start in Carolina as their linebackers coach in 2013. He'd depart following the 2017 campaign, following Steve Wilks in becoming the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals.

After a one-year stop with the Cleveland Browns in 2019, Holcomb returned to the Panthers in 2020 as their defensive run game coordinator. He was then promoted to assistant head coach on defense in 2022, and later took over as the interim defensive coordinator after Wilks replaced former head coach Matt Rhule.

The Buffalo Bills, in 2023, would hire Holcomb as a senior defensive assistant. He'd go on to serve as their linebackers coach in 2024 and 2025.
