ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The second-seeded Hilton Cadets held off a Portside Royals rally to advance to the Class A semifinals.
Hilton opened the scoring just three minutes in with a goal from Hunter Huttemann. Portside responded at the start of the second period, as Wyatt Pentz knotched a goal to make it 1-1.
Hilton’s Lucas Grizzanti led the way for the Cadets to close out the second period. The sophomore scored two goals in just 30 seconds to give Hilton a 3-1 lead.
With just four minutes left in the game, Portside rallied back. Cole Laffin scored to make it 3-2, then Zachary Haines found the back of the net to make it 3-3 and send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless extra period, the game went to double overtime.
Seven minutes into the second overtime, Luke Zelesnikar sent a pass to Grizzanti, who tapped it in to win the game.
Hilton (12-8-1) advances to the semifinal round where it will face No. 6 Fairport. Portside ends its season 8-11-3.
