Steelers insider cites rumor to pinpoint possible blockbuster WR trade for Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to make a big move at wide receiver this offseason.

General manager Omar Khan has failed miserably at making the kind of addition the Steelers need in recent years and that has led to Pittsburgh sporting one of the worst wide receivers rooms in the NFL in that span.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Steelers have DK Metcalf and nothing but question marks behind him. So, not only do the Steelers need an adequate No. 2 pass-catcher, the entire wide receivers room needs to be rebuilt.

Based on rumors at last year's trade deadline, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly believes we could see Pittsburgh go after a trade for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

“The one who’s very interesting to me, and I know he’s not on the block, but a lot of things are happening in Miami right now, is Waddle,” Kaboly said on 93.7 The Fan.

“Because they were definitely interested in him last year at the deadline. Depending on who you believe, Miami pulled out at the last second, or they would have at least had an opportunity to acquire him.”

There were plenty of trade rumors surrounding Waddle before last year's trade deadline, and we know the Steelers were reportedly interested in him, so it's conceivable the two sides could revisit talks again.

This is exactly the kind of splash the Steelers should be looking to make. Their need at wide receiver is that dire.

Waddle is a three-time 1,000-yard playmaker who would add some much-needed explosiveness to Pittsburgh's offense. Adding to that, Waddle is still just 27 years old and and is under contract for three more seasons, although that contract may need an adjustment with massive cap hits coming in 2027 and 2028.

The former first-round pick has had a few down years in a row, but that has more to do with lackluster play at quarterback in Miami than anything else.

With the Dolphins cleaning house up and down the roster this offseason, it's not crazy to think they could trade Waddle, who may very well want to be traded because of the tough years ahead for Miami.

Trading for Waddle would no doubt be expensive, but it's worth it for the kind of massive upgrade the talented wideout can provide in Pittsburgh.
