Floyd Mayweather has announced that he plans to come out of retirement and return to professional boxing in 2026.
Mayweather, who ended his career with a knockout win over UFC star Conor McGregor nine years ago, has since stepped away from official fights.
But while he’s stayed away from sanctioned bouts, the former five-weight world champion has kept busy with a series of exhibition matches. He’s faced off against opponents such as Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji, and had two bouts against John Gotti III.
Looking ahead, Mayweather is set to take on another high-profile exhibition when he faces Mike Tyson. The 48-year-old will step into the ring against the former undisputed heavyweight champion next.
Floyd Mayweather to come out of retirement
Floyd Mayweather’s retirement is officially over, with the former world champion set to return to professional boxing in 2026.
Mayweather has already signed an exclusive agreement with CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS ahead of his comeback and will be taking on former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson next.
His last appearance in a professional fight came back in 2017 when he defeated Conor McGregor by TKO, calling time on his career soon after with an unblemished record.
The announcement doesn’t come as a complete shock given Mayweather’s comments earlier this year that suggested he wasn’t finished yet.
“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” he said at the time. “From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterward, no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience, and generate more money with each event than my events.”
Mayweather vs Tyson Venue and Date
The matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson was first revealed publicly in September 2025. Now, several months down the line, the pair finally have both a date and location for their highly-anticipated fight.
The event is ‘tentatively set’ for April 25 in Congo.
