Kent State baseball wins series at Tennessee

Kent State (5-2) defeated No. 15 Tennessee (5-2), 9-5, on Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium to conclude a three-game nonconference series.

The Golden Flashes won Game 2, 2-1, after losing, 4-3 in a series opener.

On Sunday, Evan Blanco (1-1) started for the Vols and pitched four innings. He totaled eight strikeouts and 79 pitches, including 45 strikes, against 19 batters. Blanco allowed three hits, three runs (two earned) and four walks.

Tennessee's offense totaled seven hits against Kent State. Henry Ford hit one double for Tennessee, the Vols' only extra-base hit in the series finale.

Ford and Blaine Brown had one RBI each for the Vols, while Jay Abernathy Jr., (two), Finley Bates (one), Levi Clark (one) and Ford (one) scored runs for Tennessee on Sunday.

Tennessee went 3-for-9 with runners on base, while going 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Vols will next play on Tuesday against Bellarmine. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m. EST (SEC Network+).
