Wisconsin wraps up WCHA regular season title with win over St. Cloud State

MADISON – Mission accomplished!

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team closed the regular season with a 4-2 victory over St. Cloud State on Sunday, Feb. 22 at LaBahn Arena to capture its second straight WCHA regular-season title.

The Badgers needed a victory in the finale to finish ahead of Ohio State. Wisconsin (29-3-2, 23-3-3 WCHA - 72 points) finished two points ahead of the Buckeyes and will open the WCHA playoff Friday at home against with a best of three series versus Bemidji State.

Senior Lacey Eden continued her hot streak against St. Cloud, scoring a goal for the 10th time in the last 12 games and recording two assists.

She also got credit for the game-winning goal for the second straight game. That score gave Wisconsin a 3-0 lead at the 9-minute 27-second mark of the second period.

The Badgers also received multi-point games from senior defender Vivian Jungels and sophomore forward Finley McCarthy, who each had two assists, and junior Laney Potter (one goal, one assist).
