Sidney Crosby was in full uniform, but he hadn't played.

The Team Canada captain was on the ice after Sunday's gold medal game loss to the United States, only to receive a silver medal.

Crosby was injured in the quarterfinal round, a lower-body injury that appeared to be his right knee.

He ended up sitting out both the semifinal win over Finland and the loss to Team USA.

It's something that now has to worry Pittsburgh Penguins fans. They're having a better season than many expected, and they'll want Crosby back soon.

The good news is this: Crosby said he was "pretty close" to playing on Sunday.

DK Pittsburgh Sports added this thought from his Pittsburgh teammate, Kris Letang:

"Knowing him, it must have been hard. He probably sat in the locker with his gear on and watched it on TV."

Crosby is immensely respected by both his Canadian and Penguins teammates. None of them would've wanted Crosby to miss out on what was likely his final Olympic stage.

That's how things worked out, though, and next up for Crosby will be figuring out a path back into action in the NHL.

Pittsburgh returns to play on Thursday at home against the New Jersey Devils. It's obviously not a given that Crosby will return.

The sooner the better, though, for Sid the Kid. The Penguins need their leader, and he surely wants a chance to find himself again after this unfortunately timed injury.
