A key part of the rebuild will also focus on Virgil van Dijk's legacy. Liverpool need to rebuild their defence. Whether Ibrahima Konate leaves for pastures new or not, the club's backline is thin.

Joe Gomez is very fragile and Van Dijk isn't getting any younger.

Additions like Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet present a bright future. Not to mention Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye having also joined the club.

But Liverpool need more. And Hughes may be on a mission to do exactly that.

We've written recently about how Liverpool now want to sign Luka Vuskovic. This is an incredible defender who has been around for a while.

Vuskovic emerged as a 16-year-old playing in the eternal derby at Croatia and catching the eye. Back then in 2023, over three years ago Liverpool already had the chance to secure his services.

They didn;t. Instead, Tottenham signed Vuskovic and have been building his career ever since. Currently he is on loan at Hamburg where he is already becoming the best defender in the Bundesliga at just 18-years-old.

Vuskovic ranks among the top five centre-backs for defensive duels won (75%), aerial duels won (65%) and interceptions (6.02 per 90 minutes).

He is an incredibly talented defender who can play across the defensive line, even as a full-back but most importantly both as a left-sided and right-sided centre-back.

In terms of his ability, it's remarkable what he is doing at his age. Vuskovic's reading of the game is elite. He is incredibly strong in the air and already very physical.

On top of that he has this poise and composure on the ball. He's constantly looking to play vertically.

And then there is his aerial threat. Vuskovic has incredible power and he can score a lot of goals. He scored seven goals in the Jupiler Pro League last season and has scored four in the Bundesliga.

In essence, he is perfect. If Liverpool are serious, they simply have to bring him to Anfield. He can be the best defender in the world one day.
