Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has shared his verdict on January signing Andre De Jong and clarified the absence of midfielder Kabelo Dlamini.

The New Zealand international signed for the Soweto giants from Stellenbosch FC, in a move that signaled the Buccaneers' intentions to clinch the Betway Premiership title.

De Jong, who opened his Bucs account against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32, has made five appearances across all competitions since joining Pirates.

The 29-year-old was handed a start in the Sea Robbers' Nedbank Cup exit at the hands of Casric Stars on Saturday, and Ouaddou was content with his display, stressing patience with the new arrival.

“You know about Andre, when you come in the middle of the season it's not easy for any player but I think he's doing his best to adapt to the team. Today [Saturday] we decided to give him time and to be honest I think that he did good things in the position and what we asked him,” he said.

"Of course, that maybe we needed this goal but the goal doesn't come only from him, the goal can come from the whole frontline. His integration is coming step by step, you can tell me maybe we don't have time in such a big club like Pirates.

"But we don't have a choice, we have to back him and not only him but all the new players. It's the life of the club and it's our job as a technical staff to make all our best to help them.

The 47-year-old tactician went on to shed light on Dlamini's absence, with the utility player last seen in action in the 2-0 league win over Durban City in November 2025.

“Dlamini is injured at the moment, I don't know if you know about that, but it has been three weeks I think since he has an injury. But he's coming back, he's on the rehabilitation,” Ouaddou explained.
