Barcelona prefer Premier League winger to permanent Rashford deal

Barcelona would prefer to sign Manchester City winger Savinho this summer over finalising a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford.

Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United last summer and has made a positive impact in Catalonia.

The 28-year-old has 10 goals and nine assists across all competitions and can be signed for a modest fee of £26m at the end of the campaign. However, he has started just two of the club’s last seven La Liga games when fit, raising doubts over a permanent deal.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick would be ‘prepared to miss out’ on Rashford if the club can secure a deal for Savinho. The latter has started just five games in the Premier League for Manchester City this season and was subject of interest from Tottenham Hostspur last summer.

He signed a new deal after an offer from Spurs was rejected but could consider his options, after losing his place following the signings of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo.

City would demand a fee in excess of £50m for the 21-year-old, a fee that could prove prohibitive for Barcelona.

However, the Spanish champions could explore a deal if Savinho is available, having been impressed with the winger during a previous La Liga spell at Girona. Flick is believed to consider Savinho a better tactical fit than Rashford for his plans.
