It has been a great start to the 2026 season for the USC baseball team. After sweeping Pepperdine last weekend, the Trojans went 4-0 this past week, defeating LMU on Wednesday night before sweeping Rice at Dedeaux Field over the weekend.
Against LMU, USC earned its second mercy rule victory in the first four games of the season, winning 14-4 in seven innings. Then, the Trojans’ pitching shut down Rice, propelling the team to 5-0, 4-1, and 4-2 victories in the three-game series.
The starting pitching has been the most impressive—and surprising—position group for the Trojans through the first two weeks of the season. After losing the majority of their top starting pitchers from last season, there were major questions about the position entering the 2026 campaign. Through two starts each, however, USC’s weekend rotation of Mason Edwards, Grand Govel, and Andrew Johnson has combined to allow just one earned run.
As a result, USC is off to its first 7-0 start to a season since 2015. That year, the Trojans opened the year 12-0, not suffering their first defeat until the month of March.
After a perfect start at home, USC will now hit the road for the first time in 2026. The Trojans will visit Cal Poly for a four-game series beginning on Thursday night.
