The Miami Dolphins have already begun making major changes to the roster this offseason. Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb have already been cut, saving tens of millions in cap space.

But the Dolphins might not be done. Tua Tagovailoa could also be cut this offseason. A trade could materialize as well, but either way, Tagovailoa doesn't look to be long for the Dolphins roster.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Dolphins this offseason could then pivot from Tagovailoa to a new Alabama quarterback. This one could come in the NFL Draft, and potentially even as early as 11th overall.

Dolphins could ditch Tagovailoa for new Alabama QB

"The Dolphins have the No. 11 pick," Howe writes, "so they'll be among the teams worth monitoring on Alabama QB Ty Simpson's trail."

There have been plenty of players and quarterbacks the Dolphins have been linked to this offseason and in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But Alabama's Ty Simpson has not been one of those quarterbacks or prospects linked to the Dolphins this offseason.

At 11th overall, the Dolphins have been linked to Mansoor Delane and Caleb Downs as two of the most common draft picks. With a major need in the secondary, a cornerback or safety at 11th overall is a very common pick.

What hasn't been often mocked for the Dolphins has been a quarterback. Even later in the draft, the Dolphins are more likely to pair second-year QB Quinn Ewers with a veteran free agent and not a rookie in this year's class.

The Dolphins taking Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft would be a mild surprise, as there are too many holes all across the roster at the moment. While he might have potential, taking another Alabama quarterback in Simpson would be a mistake.

Miami is better off rebuilding for a year and passing on Simpson to focus elsewhere on their roster. He's an intriguing prospect, but the Dolphins are not a good fit right now. The Alabama QB is linked to the Dolphins now, but hopefully, he won't be the pick.
