Huddersfield lead the way for super subs

After going four games without a win in all competitions before last weekend, Huddersfield Town bounced back and were aided once again by impact from the bench.

The Terriers sacked manager Lee Grant earlier this year with Liam Manning taking over to ensure that Huddersfield continued to push for a play-off spot with the two top places in League One most likely sealed.

It was a good weekend for Manning, seventh-placed Reading drop points while new arrival Ryan Hardie made a big impact.

Hardie was introduced in the 57th minute in place of Will Alves and ended up getting what turned out to be the winning goal in the 74th minute in what turned out to be a 2-1 win over Barnsley. That goal was the third league goal from the bench since Mannings' arrival and the 15th league goal from a substitute in total this season.

Huddersfield's substitutes are leading the way across the top four tiers with no team coming close to the 15 goals from the bench, Ipswich Town and Bromley come closest on 12.

Of those 15 goals (27% of Huddersfield's total league tally), three have been scored by Joe Taylor (now of Wigan Athletic) and Cameron Ashia while Ben Wiles (who has since switched to MK Dons) is the other player to have scored as a substitute more than once for the Town. Meanwhile, seven other plays have netted once off the bench.

One Huddersfield player has a unique distinction though, Daniel Vost is the only Terrier to come off the bench and score an own goal. Perhaps he can even that out before the end of the season.
