The Las Vegas Raiders will likely either trade or release quarterback Geno Smith in the coming weeks.
Here are some teams he could possibly end up with.
Arizona Cardinals:
The Cardinals are expected to either cut or trade Kyler Murray and likely go with Jacoby Brissett. Perhaps Smith could be brought in as competition for Brissett.
Atlanta Falcons:
The Falcons are expected to move on from Kirk Cousins. So, Smith cold be an attractive veteran backup for third-year player Michael Penix.
Cleveland Browns:
The Browns will likely bring in some competition for Shedeur Sanders. Bringing in a veteran like Smith could be an attractive option for the season in Cleveland.
Indianapolis Colts:
With Daniel Jones coming off an injury and recent first-round pick Anthony Richardson a question mark, the Colts could be looking for a new starter on a short-term deal. Smith could be an option.
Kansas City Chiefs:
Seriously. If Patrick Mahomes is not ready for Week 1, the Chiefs may need a veteran option and Smith could be it. I know what you’re thinking: I hope the Raiders play the Chiefs early in the season. And, I don’t blame you.
Miami Dolphins:
The Dolphins have a Tua Tagovailoa problem and may be looking for a veteran option like Smith.
Minnesota Vikings:
NFL Media has already reported Smith could be a potential veteran competitor for J.J. McCarthy.
New York Jets:
Jets wouldn’t be happy, but when are they? The Jets are looking for a quarterback and it’s not out of the question they can turn to Smith, who spent his first four season with.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
If 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers doesn’t return, the Steelers could turn to 35-year-old Smith for the season.
Conclusion:
There are a lot of teams out there with a big need at the quarterback position without any solutions thanks to a poor quarterback drafter after the Raiders take Fernando Mendoza to start the draft. So, Smith should find a new home. The Raiders may be able to trade him, but don’t expect a ton in return.
