Blue Jays' Santander to miss 5-6 months after shoulder surgery

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Anthony Santander will miss five to six months after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, an injury that returned in January when he resumed hitting.

Santander, 31, revealed Wednesday that the shoulder pain resurfaced in January when he began hitting again after taking time off to rest, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. An MRI then confirmed the torn labrum, which was made public on the first day of spring training.

This marks another setback for the Blue Jays outfielder, who missed most of last season rehabbing the same shoulder, appearing in just 54 regular-season games. He is entering the second year of a five-year, $92.5-million contract signed with Toronto ahead of the 2023 season.
