McMorris, who fell in two of three attempts, was competing despite suffering a concussion, bone bruising near his pelvis, and an abdominal strain in a training crash. The 32-year-old Regina native had previously medaled in three consecutive Olympics in this event. Spalding, the 2024-25 World Cup champion, was unable to secure a spot on the podium despite strong qualifying performances.
The gold medal was won by Su Yiming of China on his 22nd birthday, while Japan's Taiga Hasegawa earned silver and Jake Canter of the U.S. grabbed bronze.
