Eliot Wolf makes sense of Will Campbell criticisms, playoff struggles

New England Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf made a definitive statement on left tackle Will Campbell on Tuesday.

He told Todd McShay that the team does not plan on moving Campbell to guard. When it came to Campbell's playoff struggles, Wolf pointed to the fact that the 22-year-old offensive lineman was coming off an MCL injury that clearly impacted his level of play down the stretch.

The injury occurred in the Patriots' Week 12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and Campbell was placed on injured reserve. He ultimately fought his way back onto the field in time for the team's regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins and the playoffs.

However, he didn't look like the same player upon returning after an otherwise impressive rookie showing. Those struggles were amplified in Super Bowl LX, when he allowed 14 pressures to the Seattle Seahawks, according to Next Gen Stats.

“We’re not moving him to guard," Wolf said on The McShay Show. "He’s a young guy that had a tremendous season. I would say three of his four worst games happened to come in the playoffs, post-injury. He was healthy, but I think he’d be the first to tell you that maybe he wasn’t able to anchor the same way he had with the knee injury.”

The Patriots invested the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft on Campbell to be the team's starting left tackle. It might be too early to be talking about a potential positional change after one bad playoff stretch.
