Real Madrid to pay €2 million as add-ons to youngster’s former club after major milestone

Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over SL Benfica on Wednesday night to book their place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

It was an important win for Alvaro Arbeloa & co., especially considering that they had lost their previous match against Osasuna in La Liga.

The match turned out to be a special occasion for Real Madrid young midfielder Arda Guler, who started on the night against Benfica, as he made his 100th appearance for the team.

Real Madrid pay €2 million to Fenerbahce

Now, AS reports that with Guler making his 100th professional appearance, it triggered one of the performance-related clauses included in the transfer agreement between Fenerbahce and Real Madrid.

As a result, the Turkish giants will receive an additional €2 million from the Merengues.

Fenerbahce sold Guler to Real Madrid in the summer of 2023 for €20 million plus more than €10 million in potential add-ons. So far, the Turkish club has already collected €8 million in bonuses.

Including the base fee, Güler has generated €28 million for Fenerbahce. That figure could rise to around €30 million if he makes 25 more appearances for Madrid.

The agreement also includes a 20% sell-on clause, meaning Fenerbahçe would receive a fifth of any future transfer fee should Guler move again.

In his 100 appearances for Real Madrid over the past two and a half years, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder has racked up 15 goals and 23 assists, winning La Liga, UEFA Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
