Boston Celtics fans are enjoying an unexpectedly competitive season. Things weren't supposed to be going so well for Joe Mazzulla's roster this year, not after trading away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, losing Jayson Tatum to injury and letting both Al Horford and Luke Kornet walk in free agency. Nevertheless, smart additions and some elite-level coaching have seen the Celtics command the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
Everybody within the organization deserves credit. Stevens and his staff pinpointed some low-cost, high-upside additions to round out the roster, while Mazzulla and his coaching staff have ensured everyone is on the same page and excelling in their roles. Once again, the Celtics look like a prime example of what a well-run franchise should look like.
During a recent episode of the Bob Ryan and Jeff Goodman podcast, the veteran analyst pinpointed Stevens as the person who deserves the most credit for the success we're witnessing this season. The duo pinpointed Stevens' ability to unearth hidden gems, which in turn speaks to his eye for undervalued talent.
