Liverpool transfer plans laid bare as major update emerges

Liverpool's 2025-26 season has been a rather weird one.

There have been times when the Reds have been on top form but, for the vast majority of the campaign, they've always been second-best.

This has caused many rumours to start emerging ahead of the summer transfer window with Arne Slot's men being linked with several new players each week.

The transfer window isn't going to be open for a few months but, it's now clear what the Anfield outfit are planning to do to try and improve their chances of becoming Europe's most dominant team once again.

Liverpool could look to move Giovanni Leoni on in the summer transfer window

Giovanni Leoni's debut for Liverpool was cut short after he ended up tearing his ACL during a Carabao Cup clash against Southampton at the start of the season.

The Italian's injury has meant that Slot has been left weak in defence for most of the 2025-26 campaign with others such as Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez also failing to keep fit.

And, even though Leoni is likely to take some time to get back up to speed, it seems like he could end up doing that away from Anfield.

That is, according to an update from Calcio Mercato who have shared that Inter Milan could look at taking Leoni on loan next season to 'regain his playing confidence.'

Inter would consider 'revisiting' a deal for the youngster if he becomes available on the market.

Liverpool are clearly moving closer to strengthening their defensive ranks

One thing that is clear about next season is that Liverpool need some reinforcements to bolster their ranks.

They may have spent around £450 million on new signings but the fact that they also sold over £300 million of players is often forgotten about.

The Reds have been through some massive changes over the course of the 2025-26 season with their weaknesses often being exposed.

It's clear that Slot's men will never be an injury-free team so, with this in mind, it feels like the club need at least two players for each position in order to be safe.

At the moment, this is the case for some positions among their first-team squad's ranks but it's clear that the current players in the Anfield outfit's ranks aren't cut out for a Premier League title challenge just yet.

And, after this news about Leoni that has just emerged, it's clear what Slot's transfer plans are for the summer.

Liverpool's defence is going to be one of his top priorities with several players already being linked with a move and, if we're being honest, with the future of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate still up in the air, this is clearly the best move for the Reds.

That is, especially if they want to try and win the Premier League title next term.
