The futures of Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu are becoming one of the most intriguing subplots of Inter Milan’s summer, with both players’ situations hinging on their own decisions rather than the club’s intentions.
As noted by L’Interista, Calhanoglu came close to leaving Inter last summer following the Champions League final defeat, with his well-documented fallout with Lautaro Martinez adding further uncertainty.
A move never materialised, but the pull of Galatasaray has not weakened. The Turkish club’s manager and president continue to make public declarations of interest, and Inter’s position is clear, if Calhanoglu asks to leave, they will not stand in his way.
With one year remaining on his contract, any exit would still require an adequate offer.
The club’s preference is to keep him and have him guide Aleksandar Stankovic’s development, but ultimately the decision rests with the player.

Barella’s situation follows a similar logic.
Inter have no desire to sell the Italy midfielder, and with Arsenal among the clubs credited with interest, they will demand around €50 million if he does push for a move.
That figure is non-negotiable, Inter will not let him go cheaply.
However, if Barella genuinely seeks a new challenge, the club would respect his wishes rather than force him to stay against his will.
In both cases, Inter hold firm, but the final word belongs to the players themselves.
