Texas A&M enters Sunday at 9–1, carrying their first loss of the season and an opportunity to show how quickly they can reset. The Aggies opened the weekend with a dominant 10–0 run‑rule win over Virginia Tech, only to fall 11–1 to No. 1 UCLA the following night, a reminder of how thin the margin can be when the approach at the plate slips.
Both games ended in run‑rule fashion, but for opposite reasons. Even in Friday’s win, the early innings showed some of the same issues that resurfaced against UCLA—expanded zones, rushed at‑bats, and missed opportunities to control counts. Against the top team in the country, those mistakes were magnified.
With Chris Hacopian and Wesley Jordan still unavailable, head coach Michael Earley continues to search for the right offensive mix. For Sunday’s matchup with Arizona State, the Aggies will insert Blake Binderup as the designated hitter and move Jake Duer back to the outfield in place of Travus Chestnut, giving the lineup a slightly different look as they try to regain rhythm.
Texas A&M now has a chance to close the weekend on a high note and bring momentum back to Olsen Field. After Saturday’s loss, a competitive offensive showing would signal that this group can absorb a punch and respond quickly—an important trait for a team navigating early‑season injuries and a challenging schedule.
