There are a lot of roster moves coming this offseason for the New York Jets. Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn are going to be busy this spring.
One of the biggest moves that the Jets are going to make is with running back Breece Hall. He's expected to be tagged with the $11.7 million transition tag. But there's a much more exciting future that could come to fruition for Hall and the Jets.
According to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, there is optimism that the Jets and Hall can come to terms on a contract extension and not rely on a tag to keep the star running back in New York.
Optimism building around a Jets and Breece Hall extension
"There is confidence from team and league sources that a new contract will get done at some point," Rosenblatt writes. "Possibly even before Tuesday's deadline."
It's been reported that the Jets have no intention of letting Hall leave this offseason. It makes sense, as losing the star running back when there's a lackluster draft class and free agent pool at running back would be a tough loss.
Hall is 25 years old and coming off a 1,065 rushing-yard season for the Jets in 2025. He was great despite being in an offense that struggled to move the ball all year.
With the Jets wanting to sign Hall to a multi-year contract extension, and Hall looking for a big deal as well, the two sides are in communication about an extension.

The only question is how much money and for how long this new deal will last. The Jets have nearly $80 million in cap space, but that doesn't mean they'll splurge on Hall and sign him to a deal of $15 million per-year.
Instead, something in the $12-$13 million per-year range is more likely. That would be worth it for the Jets. But Hall might want to wait for Kenneth Walker III to sign in free agency.
Even if he's tagged by the Jets, the two sides can work out an extension. If Hall is tagged, and then Walker or another running back signs a big deal, Hall will have more leverage.
But, at the end of the day, this report from Rosenblatt reveals there's optimism that a contract extension will be agreed to between Hall and the Jets. The dual-threat running back looks likely to stay with the Jets for years to come.
