Red Wings goalie John Gibson injured against Predators

The Detroit Red Wings are holding their breath after one of their most important players went down.

Starting goalie John Gibson left Monday’s game against the Nashville Predators with an upper-body injury.

Gibson allowed one goal on 11 shots and was replaced by Cam Talbot to start the second period.

The veteran goalie started his first season in Detroit slow, but since December he has been one of the top goalies in the NHL, leading all goalies with 19 wins to go with a .925 save percentage and four shutouts.

Thanks in part to Gibson, Detroit is in the thick of the playoff hunt, holding the first wild-card berth after entering action Monday with 74 points.
