Boxing expert claims Floyd Mayweather is fighting three times because he has run out of money

A boxing commentator has suggested Floyd Mayweather’s packed 2026 schedule may be motivated by financial concerns rather than sporting ambition.

The 49-year-old has three fights arranged across the next eight months, facing Mike Tyson in April, Mike Zambidis in June, and Manny Pacquiao in September. Confirmation of the third bout reignited discussion about his financial standing.

One analyst publicly questioned whether the former five-division champion’s return to frequent competition is being driven by money.

Boxing analyst questions Mayweather’s finances

Following the announcement of the Mike Zambidis fight, boxing expert Wade Plemons shared a pointed message on X regarding Floyd Mayweather’s situation.

“I told you guys.. Floyd owes a lot of people a lot of money. And he don’t have it.”

Mayweather has previously requested extensions from the IRS to address tax obligations and is currently pursuing a $340 million lawsuit against Showtime.

The statement intensified debate about whether Mayweather’s activity in 2026 reflects calculated promotion or underlying financial strain.

Ongoing disputes add to scrutiny

Logan Paul has alleged that he is still owed at least $1.5 million from their 2021 exhibition, claiming Mayweather pre-sold the fight using his likeness to a company in the Middle East for $10 million.

Paul has indicated he does not expect to receive the outstanding payment and that Mayweather has some financial problems.

Despite the legal disputes and public allegations, Mayweather continues to book major events and remains a prominent draw in the sport.

Whether his three scheduled bouts signal financial pressure or simply another lucrative chapter in his career continues to spark discussion.
