Chargers to Release Guard Mekhi Becton

The Los Angeles Chargers will release veteran guard Mekhi Becton, clearing $9.7 million in cap space while incurring $2.5 million in dead money.

Becton signed a two‑year deal with the Chargers in March 2025, but the contract had no guaranteed money for 2026. The move will allow the team to free up cap room ahead of the 2026 season, though it will leave a $2.5 million dead‑money hit. Becton appeared in 15 regular‑season games and started the playoff loss to the Patriots.

The former 2020 Jets first‑round pick had struggled with injuries early in his career, but earned a starting role with the Eagles in 2024 and helped them to a Super Bowl win before signing with the Chargers.
