Coolidge Athletics on Probation After Basketball Incident

Coolidge High School's entire athletics department has been placed on 365-day probation by the Arizona Interscholastic Association after alleged taunting during a boys basketball playoff game.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) penalized Coolidge following incidents in a Class 3A playoff game against Chinle, which the Bears won 64-53. Video evidence led to an investigation resulting in a playoff ban for all school teams, including forfeiture of their upcoming state semifinal against Snowflake.

Coolidge is currently appealing the decision, which if upheld, would disqualify all athletic teams from postseason play for one year. Arizona state legislator Myron Tsosie has responded to the incident, citing messages from concerned Chinle families and fans about the "unfortunate events" that occurred.
