Vanderbilt Sweeps SEC Awards with Player, Coach, Freshman Honors

Vanderbilt women's basketball made history by becoming the sixth team to sweep SEC Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year awards in the same season.

Vanderbilt's Mikayla Blakes took home Player of the Year honors after leading the nation with 27.1 points per game and becoming the first player since 2000 to average more than 30 points in SEC games. Freshman Aubrey Galvan was named Freshman of the Year, averaging 12.9 points, 5.9 assists and 2.7 steals, while head coach Shea Ralph earned Coach of the Year. The Commodores (27-3) set school records for regular-season and conference wins.

"It's a team award," Ralph said. "Usually the teams that win are the ones that are going to get this award." Blakes and Galvan both credited their teammates for their success as Vanderbilt earned the No. 2 seed in both the SEC Tournament and is projected as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
